Earth-Friendly Tips for Saving Money on School Supplies

Yay, it’s that time of year! Back-to-school brings back such good memories.

I guess I’m a goober at heart: I loved brown leather shoes, pencil boxes, and cubby holes. I still love filling in forms, checking off supply lists, and taking tests (not that I get to do that much anymore).

I have a couple posts at Parentables and Babble on ways to avoid going hog wild in the fun section of Office Max.

10 Ways to Save Big on School Supplies

Are you all ready for school? We start early here in D.C.: next Monday, August 22.

My daughters will be new at their elementary school. Is anyone else changing schools?

My children are adults now, but a month before my very shy daughter daughter started a new middle school, I did something she still says was helpful. I went to the school office and got a list of her future classmates’ names. She posted it on her bedroom bulletin board, read and re-read it, memorized it, tried to imagine what these children would look like, act like, and wondered who would become special friends. When school finally started, her new classmates no longer seemed like complete strangers and she was eager to meet them.

      Hi Nancy,

This is amazing! How did you know I was in the middle of writing a post about ways to help your child adjust to a new school?

      THANK YOU. A wonderful idea.
