10 Cheap and Easy Kid-Free Date Night Ideas

Friend and children’s entertainer Melissa of Moey’s Music Party used to go on daytime dates with her husband. They had more energy during the day (and so did their son), so why pay a babysitter to sit on their couch? she reasoned.

“One of our favorite adventures was going to a Greenwich Village wig store,” Melissa told me in an interview about how she saves money as a mommy rocker in New York City. “I was always curious how I’d look as a blond, so I tried on the Marilyn Monroe model. My husband said I looked like George Washington!”

It’s hard to top that date for creativity, but I did find a bunch of fun and inexpensive ideas by asking the team of Parentables writers.

You can explore all of them at 10 Cheap and Easy Kid-Free Date Night Ideas on Parentables.

And please, chime in with your own inexpensive date night ideas in the comments. I know you’ve got some good ones!

Pretty good advice. I reckon some of my friends will be very interested in hearing about this.

This was such a great article. It really made me stop and think. When my husband and I were dating we were students and didn’t have much money so one of our favorite things to do was get a bottle of inexpensive wine, a hunk of munster cheese, a blanket and go the the nearest airport find a spot at the end of the runway and watch the planes come in. That was so much fun. We were more creative in our youth but I think that’s what we’re going to do on our next date night. It will be fun to reminisce of 30 years ago.

Hey Get out of Debt Girl,

What an adventurous idea! I love how you involve food too. :-) The romance of thinking about taking off and far-away travel is really cool, as well as I’m sure the thunderous sound of the plane engines.

Thank you for sharing your ideas!

        Amy,
It was so much fun. As a matter of fact that is how my husband knew I was the one for him. He and his father were outside talking about how hard it was to find “the One”. My husband had just said he wished he could find someone who would call him up and and say, “hey, lets grab a six pack and go for a walk on the canal”. I called 5 minutes later and did just that. We were married less than a year later. We often just went for walks in the nature, watched planes coming in or just sat and people watched.

Hey Get out of Debt Girl (love that name, by the way),

It sounds like you two are really meant for each other! I love the simple ways you spend time together: people watching, nature walks, runway picnics.

          Great ideas for all us.

          Thanks
          Amy

    Hi Amy–

Once a month the city we live in (Coral Gables, FL) hosts a free art gallery night. A handful of stores will display different art, sculptures and some sell them as well. They often serve wine and hors d’oeuvres and people dress up (or not) and you walk from store to store viewing the art. It’s normally from 7pm to 10pm. It’s fun and at least you get to be around cultured adults that care about art in general. We’ve often done this after we’ve had dinner in the area on that night. It’s fun and free and we enjoy it.
